Genesis 13Book 1 of 66 · 18 verses · MBT primary, NKJV fallback where MBT pending
So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him.
Abram was very wealthy in livestock, in silver, and in gold.
And he went on his journey by stages from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai.
To the place of the altar which he had built there at first, and there Abram worshiped the LORD.
Lot also, who was traveling with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents.
Now the land was not able to support them so that they might dwell together, for their possessions were so great that they could not remain together.
And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock, and at that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were dwelling in the land.
So Abram said to Lot, "Please let there be no quarreling between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are kinsmen.
Is not the whole land before you? Please separate yourself from me; if you take the left, then I will go to the right, or if you take the right, then I will go to the left.
And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the entire plain of Jordan was well watered everywhere before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar.
So Lot chose for himself the entire plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward, and they separated from each other.
Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and moved his tent as far as Sodom.
But the men of Sodom were extremely wicked and sinful against the LORD.
And the LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, "Lift up your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward and southward and eastward and westward.
For all the land which you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever.
And I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could number the dust of the earth, then your offspring also could be numbered.
Arise, walk through the land in every direction through its length and breadth, for I am giving it to you.
Then Abram moved his tent and came and settled by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and there he built an altar to the LORD.
