Philippians 1Book 50 of 66 · 30 verses · MBT primary, NKJV fallback where MBT pending
Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Christ Jesus — to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the overseers and deacons:
Grace to you, and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I thank my God in all my remembrance of you,
always — in every prayer of mine for you all — making my prayer with joy,
because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.
I am confident of this very thing: that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
It is right for me to think this way about all of you — because I have you in my heart, since both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, all of you share with me in this grace.
For God is my witness — how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound still more and more, in full knowledge and all discernment,
so that you may approve the things that are excellent — that you may be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ,
filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ — to the glory and praise of God.
Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel,
so that my chains in Christ have become known throughout the whole praetorian guard, and to all the rest;
and most of the brothers, having confidence in the Lord because of my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
Some, indeed, preach Christ even out of envy and rivalry — but others out of good will.
These do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.
But the others proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely — supposing they will add affliction to my chains.
What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed — and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice.
For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
according to my eager expectation and hope — that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, as always, even now Christ will be magnified in my body, whether through life or through death.
For to me, to live is Christ — and to die is gain.
But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what I shall choose, I cannot tell.
I am hard-pressed between the two — having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.
But to remain in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.
And being convinced of this, I know that I will remain — and I will continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith,
so that your boasting may abound in Christ Jesus on account of me, through my coming to you again.
Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ — so that whether I come and see you, or am absent, I may hear of your circumstances: that you stand firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,
and not in any way frightened by your opponents. This is a sign of destruction to them, but of your salvation — and that from God.
For it has been granted to you for the sake of Christ — not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,
having the same conflict that you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
