"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End" (Revelation 22:13). The phrase is a divine title God applies to Himself four times in the book of Revelation (1:8, 1:11, 21:6, 22:13). It declares, in the most compact way possible, that God is the source of all things and the goal of all things — the one from whom everything came and the one to whom everything returns. What is startling is that both God the Father and Jesus Christ use the title. In Revelation 1:8, the Lord God Almighty says, "I am the Alpha and the Omega." In Revelation 22:13, the risen Christ says, "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." This is one of the clearest declarations of Christ's full deity in Scripture: whatever the Father is, the Son is. The title has Old Testament roots in Isaiah, where the LORD repeatedly says, "I am the First and I am the Last; besides Me there is no God" (Isaiah 44:6, 48:12). By applying the same language to Himself, the risen Christ claims the divine identity completely. The implications are practical. If Christ is the Alpha, He was there at your beginning. If He is the Omega, He will be there at your end. If He is both, nothing about your life escapes His authority, His love, or His purpose. You are enclosed on every side by the One who holds history.
