Door of the Sheep
noun / title
Christ as the only entrance to salvation

📖 Biblical Definition

Christ's self-designation in John 10:7-9: I am the door of the sheep... by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved. The image draws on the ancient shepherd's practice of lying across the entrance to the sheepfold at night, becoming with his own body the door that no thief or wolf could pass. Christ is both the shepherd (John 10:11) and the door (10:9) — two images, one Person, one work. The door image is exclusive (He alone is the entrance to salvation) and pastoral (He gives Himself as the body the sheep pass through and the wolves cannot). To enter the fold is to enter through Christ; there is no second door, no secondary entrance, no alternative passage to the Father.
