Oholiab was the second man God named and equipped for tabernacle construction: "And I, indeed I, have appointed with him Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you" (Exodus 31:6). Where Bezalel was chief architect, Oholiab was the master of textile arts: "an engraver and designer, a weaver of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine linen" (Exodus 38:23). Together they led a whole guild of Spirit-gifted workers. Oholiab is proof that excellence in craft is a spiritual gift equal in dignity to preaching or prophecy — and that the service of God requires many kinds of hands. Every seamstress, tailor, weaver, and textile artist stands in Oholiab's line.
