Renewal of Mind
noun phrase
The ongoing transformation of thinking by the Spirit

📖 Biblical Definition

The ongoing transformation of the Christian's thinking by the Holy Spirit. Romans 12:2: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. The Greek metamorphousthe (be transformed) is the same verb used of Christ's transfiguration on the mount — the inner reality becoming visibly displayed. The renewal happens through the word (Eph 5:26, cleansing by the washing of water by the word), through the Spirit's continued application of that word to specific patterns of thought, and through the Christian's deliberate participation: taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor 10:5). The mind is the battlefield; renewal is the long campaign that ends in conformity to Christ.
