Reward in Heaven
noun phrase
Eternal recompense for faithful service

📖 Biblical Definition

The eschatological recompense laid up for the faithful. Christ commands: rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you (Matt 5:12). The reward is not earned wages (salvation is gift, Eph 2:8-9), but it is real and proportionate to faithful service (Matt 6:1-6; 1 Cor 3:14; Rev 22:12: behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be). Scripture distinguishes treasure in heaven (Matt 6:20) from earthly reward, frames the reward as Christ Himself (Gen 15:1: I am thy exceeding great reward), and refuses the modern flattening of Christianity into earthly utility. The reward of the faithful is laid up, kept, certain — and will not disappoint.
