Wrath of the Lamb
noun phrase
The fierce judgment of Christ in Revelation

📖 Biblical Definition

The fierce judgment of Christ in Revelation. The phrase "wrath of the Lamb" (Rev 6:16) is one of Scripture's most striking conjunctions: the slaughtered Passover sacrifice (Rev 5:6) is also the One from whose face kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the chief captains, the mighty men, every bondman and every free man hide in the rocks. The juxtaposition is theological, not contradictory. The same Christ who absorbed the Father's wrath at the cross now pours it out on those who have refused His sacrifice. Wrath of the Lamb names the impossibility of escaping into a fictional sentimental Jesus when the actual Christ returns. The meekest face in history will be the most terrible face on the last day for those who have spurned Him.
