Christ's invitation in Matthew 11:28-30: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. The Greek chrēstos (easy) carries the sense of well-fitting, suited, kindly. The image is comparative: Christ's yoke is easier than the law's yoke (which Peter calls a yoke neither our fathers nor we were able to bear, Acts 15:10), easier than the world's yokes of vain striving, easier than the legalist's yoke of self-justification. Christian discipleship is not effortless — the narrow way is still narrow — but it is fitted to the redeemed soul as no other yoke can be, because the One who designed the soul also designed the yoke.
