Ἀζώρ
Azōr
Proper noun, masculine
Azor

Definition

Azōr is the Greek form of the Hebrew name Azor (possibly related to "help"). It is a name in the genealogy of Jesus Christ as recorded in Matthew's Gospel, appearing between Eliakim and Zadok.

Usage & Theological Significance

Every name in the genealogy of Christ (Matthew 1:1–17) represents a real person in a real family line through whom God was working His redemptive purposes across generations. Azor is otherwise unknown to history — no stories, no exploits recorded. Yet his name stands forever in the bloodline of the Son of God. This is a profound encouragement: faithfulness in obscurity still plays a role in God's great story. You do not need to be famous to matter in the purposes of God.
