διδάσκω
didaskō
Verb
to teach, to instruct

Definition

To teach, to instruct, to pass on knowledge and skill. In the NT, didaskō describes Jesus' primary public activity alongside healing. It implies authoritative transmission of truth that transforms understanding and behavior.

Usage & Theological Significance

Jesus' great commission climaxes not with conversion but with teaching: 'teaching them to obey everything I have commanded' (Matthew 28:20). The apostolic church devoted itself to 'the apostles' teaching' (Acts 2:42). Paul urges Timothy to pass what he learned to 'reliable people who will be qualified to teach others' (2 Timothy 2:2). Christianity is inherently a teaching faith — disciples are learners, and maturity comes through instruction.
