ἀκαιρέομαι
akaireómai
Verb
Lack opportunity, be out of season

Definition

The Greek verb akaireómai means to have no opportunity, to be out of season, or to lack a fitting moment. It appears in Philippians 4:10 where Paul thanks the Philippians for reviving their concern for him after lacking an opportunity.

Usage & Theological Significance

Paul's gracious interpretation of the Philippians' silence is instructive: they had not lost their care for him; they simply lacked the kairos — the right timing. This word (the negative of eukairos) reminds us of the biblical importance of timing. There is a right time for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1). The God who governs seasons opens and closes windows of opportunity. When a door closes, trust the Lord of timing; when it opens, act.
