εὐκαιρία
eukairia
Noun, feminine
opportunity, favorable moment, right time

Definition

Eukairia is the noun form: the opportunity itself, the favorable moment, the window of time that is ripe for action. It appears in Matthew 26:16 where Judas 'looked for an opportunity to hand him [Jesus] over' — a chilling use of what should be a positive word. The right moment used for betrayal becomes the pivotal moment in redemptive history.

Usage & Theological Significance

The story of Judas seeking eukairia to betray Jesus is a dark theological mirror: opportunities meant for good can be used for evil. Yet even this betrayal was encompassed in God's sovereignty. On the other side, the disciples' preaching created eukairia for people to receive salvation. Galatians 6:10 commands: 'as we have kairos (opportunity), let us do good to all people.' Every moment is a potential eukairia — for goodness, for witness, for service. The Christian life is fundamentally a life of seized opportunities for the Kingdom.
