Μεμψιμοιρος
Mempsimoiros
Adjective
Complaining / Discontented

Definition

A compound word from memphomai (to blame) and moira (lot/fate). Describes one who is discontented with their lot in life, a chronic complainer who grumbles about their circumstances. Appears only in Jude 1:16.

Usage & Theological Significance

Jude uses this term to describe false teachers who are grumblers and fault-finders, following their own evil desires. This vice stands in sharp contrast to the contentment and gratitude that Scripture commends (Philippians 4:11). The word warns believers against a spirit of chronic dissatisfaction that questions God's sovereign provision.
