From meta (with) and echō (to have). Means to have a share in, to partake of, to participate. Used of sharing in food, in Christ's body and blood, in the divine nature, and in heavenly calling.
This word appears in critical passages about the Lord's Supper and spiritual participation. Paul asks in 1 Corinthians 10:17 about partaking of the one bread. Hebrews 2:14 declares that since the children share in flesh and blood, Christ also shared in their humanity — the incarnation is a divine act of participation. The word teaches that Christianity is not spectatorship but active participation in Christ's life, death, and resurrection.
