G3217 · Greek · New Testament
Μεγαλωσυνη
Megalōsunē
Noun, Feminine
Majesty / Greatness

Definition

From megas (great). An abstract noun denoting majesty, greatness, or magnificence. Used exclusively of divine majesty in the New Testament — the surpassing greatness of God that exceeds all human comprehension.

Usage & Theological Significance

Hebrews uses this word to describe where Christ now sits: at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven (Hebrews 1:3, 8:1). Jude's doxology ascribes majesty to God through Jesus Christ (Jude 1:25). This word emphasizes that God's greatness is not merely large — it is in a category all its own, a transcendent magnificence before which all creation bows.
