μέτωπον
métōpon
Noun, neuter
Forehead

Definition

Métōpon (μέτωπον) means forehead. In Revelation, the forehead becomes a site of profound spiritual significance — where both the seal of God and the mark of the beast are placed, signifying allegiance.

Usage & Theological Significance

The 144,000 have the Father's name on their foreheads (Revelation 14:1). God's servants receive His seal there as protection (7:3). Those who worship the beast receive his mark on their foreheads (13:16). In the New Jerusalem, 'his name will be on their foreheads' (22:4). This draws on Exodus 28:36-38 (the high priest wore 'HOLY TO THE LORD' on his forehead) and Deuteronomy 6:8 (God's words as a sign on your forehead). The forehead represents conscious allegiance — who owns your mind and will.
