μνημονεύω
Mnemoneuo
Verb
To remember, make mention of, be mindful

Definition

The Greek verb mnemoneuo means to remember, to keep in mind, to make mention of, or to be mindful of. It is the most common New Testament word for active, intentional memory — used of disciples 'remembering' Jesus's words, of Paul urging churches to 'remember' their spiritual heritage, and of Jesus at the Last Supper commanding 'do this in remembrance of me.'

Usage & Theological Significance

Mnemoneuo is the verb of discipleship. Faithful Christians are those who remember: the Exodus (Deuteronomy 8:2), the Cross (1 Corinthians 11:24–25), the words of Christ (John 16:4), the poor (Galatians 2:10), and the coming day of the Lord (Revelation 3:3). The imperative 'remember!' runs through all of Scripture as a call to covenant fidelity — do not forget who you are and whose you are.
