Πεπειρασμενος
Pepeirasmenon
Participle (Perfect Passive)
Having Been Tempted / Tested

Definition

Perfect passive participle of peirazō (to test, to tempt). Describes one who has been tested or tempted. Applied supremely to Christ, who was tempted in every way yet without sin.

Usage & Theological Significance

Hebrews 4:15 declares that our high priest has been 'tempted in every way, just as we are — yet he did not sin.' This is foundational to Christ's ability to sympathize with our weaknesses. He does not look down from untested holiness — He knows by experience the full force of every temptation, yet never yielded. His victory over temptation becomes our resource through prayer.
