G4011 · Greek · New Testament
Περγη
Pergē
Noun, Proper
Perga

Definition

A city in Pamphylia, in southern Asia Minor (modern Turkey). Paul visited Perga on his first missionary journey. It was here that John Mark departed from the mission team.

Usage & Theological Significance

Perga is significant as the place where John Mark abandoned Paul and Barnabas (Acts 13:13), a decision that later caused a sharp disagreement between the apostles (Acts 15:37-39). Yet God used even this conflict redemptively: it resulted in two missionary teams instead of one, and Mark was eventually restored (2 Timothy 4:11). God works through human failures and disagreements to accomplish more than we expect.
