Περιβαλλω
Periballō
Verb
To Clothe / To Put Around / To Cast Around

Definition

From peri (around) and ballō (to throw/cast). To throw around, to clothe, to dress. Used of both physical clothing and the spiritual clothing of righteousness, glory, and the new resurrection body.

Usage & Theological Significance

In Revelation, the overcomers are 'clothed in white garments' (Revelation 3:5) — representing the righteousness of Christ imputed to believers. Jesus warns against worrying about what to wear since God clothes the lilies (Matthew 6:28-29). Paul eagerly anticipates being 'clothed' with the heavenly dwelling (2 Corinthians 5:2-4). God clothes His people — in righteousness now and in glory at the resurrection.
