Abundance / Surplus / Overflow

Definition

From perissos (exceeding). Abundance, surplus, that which overflows beyond what is needed. Used of the abundance of grace and the overflow of the heart.

Usage & Theological Significance

Paul declares that where sin increased, grace abounded all the more (Romans 5:17). Jesus said that out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34). The Christian life is characterized by abundance, not scarcity. God's grace always exceeds sin's damage.
