Περιφρονεω
Periphroneo
Verb
To Despise / To Think Around (Disregard)

Definition

From peri (beyond) and phroneō (to think). To think beyond or around something, hence to disregard, to despise, to look down upon. Paul warns Timothy not to let anyone despise his youth.

Usage & Theological Significance

Paul's command to Timothy — 'Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young' (1 Timothy 4:12) — is not about attitude alone but about lifestyle. Timothy was to set an example in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity so compelling that age became irrelevant. Godly character silences contempt.
