Πιεζω
Piezō
Verb
To Press / To Press Down

Definition

To press, to squeeze, to press down. Used in Luke 6:38 of giving: 'a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over.'

Usage & Theological Significance

Jesus promised that generous givers would receive 'a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over' (Luke 6:38). The imagery is of grain being measured: the seller presses it down to pack in more, shakes the container, and still it overflows. God's generosity to the generous is extravagant and overflowing.
