χίλιοι
chílioi
Adjective/Numeral
One Thousand

Definition

Chílioi (χίλιοι) means one thousand. Theologically significant as a symbol of completeness, fullness, and divine abundance, appearing repeatedly in Revelation.

Usage & Theological Significance

In Revelation 20:1-7, chílioi appears six times in the millennium — Satan bound 'for a thousand years,' saints reigning 'for a thousand years.' This is the foundation of millennial theology. Beyond eschatology, 2 Peter 3:8 (quoting Psalm 90:4): 'With the Lord a day is like a thousand years' — God's perspective on time is radically different from ours. Deuteronomy 7:9: God keeps faithfulness 'to a thousand generations.' The number speaks of God's inexhaustible patience and sovereignty over time.
