apechei
Apechei
Verb (present indicative 3rd sg.)
It is enough / Received in full

Definition

The present indicative 3rd singular of apecho -- 'it is enough' or 'received in full.' Most notably Jesus's word in Gethsemane (Mark 14:41) and the reward 'received in full' in Matthew 6.

Usage & Theological Significance

In Gethsemane, after prayer and the disciples' sleep, Jesus declares 'it is enough' -- sovereign resolution before the cross. The same word used for earthly reward 'received in full' is used for Jesus fully receiving the cup of suffering, so that we might receive grace in full. 'It is finished' (John 19:30).
