apokueo
Apokueo
Verb
To bring forth / Give birth to

Definition

A verb meaning 'to bring forth' or 'to give birth.' Used twice in James 1:15 (sin giving birth to death) and 1:18 (God bringing us forth by the word of truth) -- the same word for opposite results.

Usage & Theological Significance

James creates a biology of both death and life. The chain of death: desire conceives sin, sin matures, death is delivered. The chain of life: God's sovereign will, the word of truth, new birth. Resist temptation at conception. Immerse in God's word, which itself generates new creation (1 Peter 1:23).
