gebiyr
Noun, Masculine
Lord, master, mighty one

Definition

From H1396 (gabar, to be strong). A masculine form denoting a lord or master β€” one who exercises authority by virtue of strength. Related to gebirah (queen mother). Used sparingly but powerfully in key passages about authority and blessing.

Usage & Theological Significance

In Isaac's blessing of Jacob (Genesis 27:29), he declares: 'Be gebiyr over thy brethren.' This is not merely social rank β€” it is covenantal authority. The one who bears the blessing becomes the master of the family line through which God's promises flow. The theological significance: authority in God's kingdom is conferred by blessing, not seized by force. Esau's attempt to reclaim the gebiyr status by tears fails because divine blessing, once spoken, is irrevocable.
