הֵד
hed
Noun, masculine
shout, echo, shout of joy

Definition

Hed refers to a shout — particularly a cry of joy, battle cry, or echoing shout. It may carry the sense of resonance: a sound that is returned or amplified. The word appears rarely but always in contexts of exuberant expression, whether in worship or battle.

Usage & Theological Significance

In Jeremiah 25:30, YHWH roars from on high and utters His voice like those who tread grapes, with a hed against all the inhabitants of the earth. This warrior-shout of God is a theological image of divine judgment — yet the same root of shouting occurs in praise. The shout of warriors mirrors the shout of worshipers. Both acknowledge that something decisive is happening. Israel's battle cries and worship shouts were the same act: declaring the sovereignty of God.
