halak
Verb
to walk, to go

Definition

One of the most frequent verbs, over 1,500 times. Means to walk, go, travel, or metaphorically to live/conduct oneself. Walking with God is Bible's primary metaphor for faithful life — Enoch walked with God (Gen 5:24).

Usage & Theological Significance

Hithpael form describes intimate, ongoing relationship with God. To halak in God's ways is summary of covenant obedience. Halakhah (Jewish legal tradition) derives from this — 'the way one walks.'
