זוּב
Zuv
Verb
To flow, gush, discharge

Definition

The Hebrew verb zuv (זוּב) means to flow, gush forth, or discharge. It is used of flowing water, blood, and bodily discharges. Most notably it appears in eretz zavat chalav u-devash — a land flowing with milk and honey — describing the Promised Land of abundance.

Usage & Theological Significance

The flowing Promised Land connects zuv to God's covenant faithfulness. Flowing is a metaphor for the overflow of divine blessing. This reaches its New Testament fulfillment in Jesus' promise of rivers of living water flowing from the believer's heart (John 7:38), and the river of life flowing from God's throne (Revelation 22:1).
