חָדַשׁ
Chadash
Verb
Renew; restore; make new

Definition

When David cries "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me" (Psalm 51:10), he uses chadash. Isaiah 61:4 speaks of renewing ruined cities — a picture of God's restorative work that culminates in Revelation 21:5: "Behold, I am making all things new." The word bridges personal spiritual renewal and cosmic restoration, making it one of the most hopeful verbs in Scripture.

Usage & Theological Significance

Chadash means to make new, to renew, or to restore to a former state. It is the verb form underlying the noun chadash (new) and is used in contexts of covenant renewal, restored strength, and the eschatological promise of all things being made new.
