חוּט
chut
Noun, masculine
thread, cord, line

Definition

A thread, string, or cord — something thin and seemingly insignificant. Yet threads in Scripture carry enormous symbolic weight, marking identity, covenant, and deliverance.

Usage & Theological Significance

The humble chut appears at crucial moments. The scarlet thread marked Zerah's hand at birth (Gen 38:28–30) and saved Rahab's household (Josh 2:18) — both connecting to the Messianic line. Abraham refused even a thread from the king of Sodom (Gen 14:23), declaring total dependence on God alone. The threefold cord of Ecclesiastes 4:12 teaches that human bonds are strongest when God is woven in.
