חׇכְמָה
Chokmah
Noun, feminine
Wisdom, skill, insight

Definition

Chokmah means wisdom, skill, or shrewd insight. It appears about 150 times. It encompasses practical skill, moral discernment, intellectual understanding, and — supremely — the fear of the LORD as the beginning of all true wisdom.

Usage & Theological Significance

Biblical wisdom is not mere intelligence but the skill of living rightly before God. Chokmah is personified in Proverbs 8 as present with God at creation, leading the church to see Christ as the embodiment of divine wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:24). All reality is morally ordered by God.
