אֲחִיחֻד
Achiykhud
Proper Name, masculine
Ahihud (Brother of Mystery / Majesty)

Definition

The Hebrew proper name Achiykhud (Ahihud) combines ach (brother) with chud (riddle, enigma, or possibly majesty/unity), yielding the meaning 'brother of mystery' or 'my brother is glorious.' Ahihud son of Shelomi was appointed as the leader of the tribe of Asher designated to help divide the land of Canaan among the Israelites.

Usage & Theological Significance

In Numbers 34, God appointed one leader from each tribe to oversee the fair distribution of the Promised Land. This was not a random selection — these men were entrusted with one of the most sacred administrative responsibilities in Israel's history. The fair partition of God's gift required wise, trusted leaders. Ahihud's name, containing the idea of 'brotherly majesty' or 'enigmatic brother,' may reflect the dignity and mystery of the calling God places on those whom He chooses for stewardship of His inheritance.
