Tab
Adjective (Aramaic)
Good / Pleasant / Beautiful

Definition

The Aramaic word tab is the equivalent of the Hebrew tov (H2896) and means good, pleasant, beautiful, or fine. It appears in the Aramaic portions of Ezra and Daniel, carrying the same broad semantic range as its Hebrew counterpart — from ethical goodness to aesthetic beauty to general well-being.

Usage & Theological Significance

In Daniel 2:32, tab describes the fine gold of the statue in Nebuchadnezzar's dream. In Daniel 6:23, the king is exceedingly glad (tab) that Daniel survived the lions' den. The word's presence in Aramaic sections reminds readers that God's goodness extends beyond the covenant people — it was witnessed and acknowledged even by pagan kings. The Aramaic tab thus universalizes the confession that goodness ultimately comes from God alone.
