טוּר
tur
Noun, masculine (Aramaic)
mountain, rock

Definition

The Aramaic cognate meaning mountain or rock, appearing in Daniel. In the famous vision of Daniel 2, the stone cut without hands strikes the statue and becomes a great tur (mountain) that fills the whole earth — representing God's eternal kingdom.

Usage & Theological Significance

This Aramaic tur is central to one of Scripture's most important messianic prophecies. The stone that becomes a tur filling the whole earth (Daniel 2:35) is God's kingdom that will shatter all human empires and endure forever. Unlike earthly kingdoms built by human hands, this mountain-kingdom is divinely established — 'cut without hands' — and unstoppable.
