אֲחִיסָמָךְ
Achiysamak
Proper Name, masculine
Ahisamach (My Brother Has Supported)

Definition

The Hebrew proper name Achiysamak (Ahisamach) combines ach (brother) and samak (to support, sustain, uphold), meaning 'my brother has supported me.' He was the father of Oholiab, the master craftsman from the tribe of Dan whom God specifically called to help build the tabernacle alongside Bezalel.

Usage & Theological Significance

Oholiab son of Ahisamach was filled by God with the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge to craft the intricate furnishings of the tabernacle (Exodus 31:1–11; 35:30–35). The father's name — 'my brother is support' — foreshadows the son's role: Oholiab was divinely supported and gifted to help support the construction of God's dwelling place. This pairing shows that God equips those He calls, and that artistic skill is a Spirit-given gift for His glory. Every creative gift in the body of Christ ultimately serves the building of God's house.
