Achar
Adjective (Aramaic)
Another / Other / Different

Definition

An Aramaic adjective meaning 'another,' 'other,' or 'different.' Used in the Aramaic sections of Daniel (2:39; 7:6) to describe successive world kingdoms.

Usage & Theological Significance

Daniel's successive 'other' kingdoms -- Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome -- are each temporary. All earthly powers are 'another' until the eternal Kingdom comes. 'Of his kingdom there will be no end' (Luke 1:33). In Christ, the final Kingdom has no 'another' after it.
