יִקָּהָה
Yiqqahah
Noun, feminine
Obedience/Submission/Gathering

Definition

The Hebrew word yiqqahah means obedience, submission, or gathering — appearing in the cryptic messianic prophecy of Genesis 49:10: 'until Shiloh comes, and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.' The word carries the idea of willing submission to authority, the gathering of peoples under a ruler.

Usage & Theological Significance

Genesis 49:10 is one of the earliest and most far-reaching messianic prophecies in Scripture. Jacob's blessing on Judah declares that the scepter will not depart from Judah 'until Shiloh comes, and to him shall be the yiqqahah of the peoples.' This vision of the nations gathering in willing obedience to the coming king was fulfilled in Christ, who is gathering a people from every tribe, tongue, and nation (Revelation 7:9). What force and empire could never achieve — the voluntary, loving submission of the nations — God accomplishes through the crucified and risen King. The yiqqahah of the peoples is the harvest of the Great Commission.
