Yashab
Verb
To sit, dwell, remain

Definition

Yashab means to sit, dwell, remain, inhabit, or settle. It appears over 1,000 times. It describes everything from sitting on a throne to dwelling in a land to remaining in a state.

Usage & Theological Significance

God yashab's — is enthroned — in heaven, in the temple, and among His people. 'He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High' (Psalm 91:1). The tension between God dwelling in heaven and dwelling with His people drives temple theology and is resolved in the Incarnation.
