מַדְמַנָּה
Madmannah
Proper Noun — Place
dunghill / place of dung

Definition

Madmannah (H4086) is a town in the Negeb of Judah, listed among the southern cities allotted to the tribe of Judah (Josh 15:31). The name literally means 'dunghill' or 'place of dung' — an unexpected name that carries theological freight about transformation.

Usage & Theological Significance

That the Holy Land included places literally named 'dunghill' reminds us of Scripture's unflinching realism. Yet the prophetic promise rings out: God makes the humble great. Ezekiel prophesied God would return the exiles and transform desolate places (Ezek 36:35). Paul takes it further — God chose 'what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are' (1 Cor 1:28). The dung heap is where Hannah and the barren woman are raised up (1 Sam 2:8; Ps 113:7). Even a town named 'Madmannah' is part of God's inheritance to His people.
