אַלְמוֹדָד
Almodad
Proper Noun (masculine personal name)
immeasurable; God is friend

Definition

Almodad (אַלְמוֹדָד) is the firstborn son of Joktan, grandson of Eber, great-great-grandson of Shem (Genesis 10:26; 1 Chronicles 1:20). The etymology is uncertain; proposed meanings include "immeasurable" (from lo + madad) or "God is friend." His descendants likely settled in the southern Arabian peninsula.

Usage & Theological Significance

Almodad appears in the Table of Nations (Genesis 10), which Scripture treats as the divinely ordered dispersion of humanity after Babel. Every name represents a people group encompassed within God's providential plan. Paul declares in Acts 17:26 that God "determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live." The Table of Nations is ultimately fulfilled in Revelation 7:9, where every nation stands before the Lamb — including the ancient peoples descended from Almodad.
