מֹשֶׁה
Mosheh
Proper noun
Moses

Definition

Mosheh (Moses) is Israel's great lawgiver, prophet, and liberator. The name may derive from the Hebrew 'to draw out' (Exodus 2:10) or the Egyptian mose (born/child). Moses appears in over 770 verses.

Usage & Theological Significance

Moses is the mediator of the old covenant, the one through whom God gave the Torah, and the paradigmatic prophet against whom all others are measured (Deuteronomy 34:10). His role as intercessor prefigures Christ, and the 'prophet like Moses' promise (Deuteronomy 18:15) finds fulfillment in Jesus.
