אֶלְתְּקֵה
Eltekeh
Proper Noun (place name)
God of meeting / established by God

Definition

Eltekeh (אֶלְתְּקֵה) is a Levitical city in Dan later given to the Kohathites (Joshua 19:44; 21:23). The etymology is uncertain: "God of meeting," "God fears nothing," or "God is your fear." Sennacherib mentions Altaqu in his annals regarding the 701 BC campaign.

Usage & Theological Significance

Eltekeh's identity as a Levitical city is theologically significant: the Levites had no tribal land because God Himself was their inheritance (Numbers 18:20). Their cities scattered among all tribes ensured God's word and priesthood were distributed throughout the nation — centers of teaching and worship. This anticipates the NT reality where God's presence is no longer localized in Jerusalem but distributed through the Spirit-indwelt church (1 Corinthians 3:16), scattered throughout the nations as centers of God's presence.
