Nechushah
Noun, feminine
Bronze, Copper

Definition

The Hebrew noun nechushah means bronze or copper. It is a feminine form related to nechosheth (H5178) and refers to the metal itself or objects made from it. Bronze was one of the most important metals in the ancient world, used for tools, weapons, vessels, and architectural elements.

Usage & Theological Significance

In Ezekiel's vision of the new temple and in prophetic descriptions of God's strength, nechushah conveys the ideas of firmness, permanence, and divine power. The bronze gates mentioned in Isaiah's prophecy to Cyrus symbolize impenetrable barriers that God would shatter for His purposes. Bronze represents obstacles that are formidable to human power but easily overcome by the sovereign LORD.
