aciyc
Noun, masculine
new wine, freshly pressed grape juice, sweet wine

Definition

Aciyc refers to freshly pressed grape juice or new wine — the juice that flows directly from the winepress before fermentation is complete. It is distinguished from yayin (aged wine) and tirosh (fresh grape juice) by its association with the press itself. It appears in Joel 1:5, Isaiah 49:26, Song of Solomon 8:2, and Amos 9:13, always with an emphasis on abundance, freshness, and divine blessing.

Usage & Theological Significance

The aciyc flows in eschatological abundance. Amos 9:13 envisions the end-time: 'The mountains will drip new wine [aciyc], and all the hills will flow with it.' Joel 3:18 echoes this. The new wine of the restored creation overflows all boundaries. But Joel 1:5 first uses aciyc in lament: 'Wail, all you drinkers of wine; wail because of the new wine, for it has been snatched from your lips.' The loss of aciyc signals covenant judgment; its abundance signals restoration. Jesus turned water to wine at Cana (Jn 2) — a sign that the age of eschatological aciyc abundance had arrived.
