peletah
Noun, Feminine
Escape, deliverance, remnant, those who escape

Definition

From H6412 (palit, 'fugitive/escaped one'). Peletah denotes both the act of escape/deliverance and the group of people who have escaped β€” the remnant that survives judgment. It is a key term in prophetic and apocalyptic literature.

Usage & Theological Significance

The peletah β€” the escaped remnant β€” is one of the Bible's most hope-laden concepts. After judgment falls, there is always a peletah. After the flood, Noah's family. After Egypt, the Exodus. After Babylon, the returning exiles. Isaiah 37:31–32 uses peletah for the remnant of Jerusalem that will 'take root downward, and bear fruit upward.' Joel 2:32 promises, 'And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered (peletah).' Paul quotes this directly in Romans 10:13. The church is the ultimate peletah β€” those who have fled to Christ and escaped the wrath to come.
