אֹרֶךְ
Orek
Noun, masculine
Length

Definition

Orek (אֹרֶךְ) means length or long extension — in space (the length of a measurement), in time (length of days, long life), or in disposition (in the phrase "long of days" meaning a long life as blessing). It appears in the dimensions of the tabernacle and temple and in wisdom literature's promise of long life for the righteous.

Theological Significance

The length of God's arm (Isaiah 59:1) — never too short to save — and the "length of days" promised to the obedient (Psalm 21:4; Proverbs 3:2) reflect the theological weight of orek. Eternal life in Christ is the ultimate fulfillment of "length of days" — not merely years added to mortal life, but an unending, abundant life in God's presence.
