שַׂהֲרֹן
saharōn
Noun, masculine
Crescent Ornament

Definition

Saharōn (שַׂהֲרֹן) means crescent, moon-shaped ornament. From sāhar (moon). Small crescent pendants worn as jewelry or placed on camels as decorative amulets.

Usage & Theological Significance

Judges 8:21,26: Gideon took the crescent ornaments from the Midianite kings' camels. Isaiah 3:18: God will strip away the finery of the daughters of Zion, including their 'crescents.' These ornaments were connected to moon worship — wearing them was a subtle form of pagan identification. God calls His people to separate from the symbols of false worship, even when they seem merely decorative. What we wear and display can signal spiritual allegiance.

Key Bible Verses

Judges 8:21 Gideon took the crescent ornaments that were on the camels' necks.
Judges 8:26 The weight of the gold rings he asked for was 1,700 shekels, not counting the crescents, pendants and purple garments.
Isaiah 3:18 In that day the Lord will snatch away their finery: bangles, headbands and crescent necklaces.
